The Deep blue between was a vibrant, vivid and heartbreaking tale that utterly swept me away. I'm thrilled to be able to share my review with you.

REVIEW

Told in duel narrative between twin sisters, Hassana and Husseina who become separated at 10 years old and sold off as slaves when their home is raided. The two couldn't have been separated further apart but their stories are just beginning as we are taken on a journey with them to different cities, cultures and language.
Despite the twins pursuing separate paths in Brazil and the Gold Coast of West Africa, they remain connected through shared dreams of water. They are never really separated and this was an element of the story I loved. At first the dreams don't make sense to each other as they don't yet know their surroundings and their geography and also that an ocean separates them. 
The resilience of both twins really touched me. They are thrown out of everything they know in a world bigger than either of them ever realised and have to learn to survive, adapt and understand new cultures and languages. Each chapter spanning the 7 years they are apart really highlights their growth and development. The author also encompasses an incredible amount of history in just 250 pages and I felt like I learnt so much.
A beautiful story of love, hope and finding our own place in the world.
