Even If We Break by Marieke Nijkamp
Happy Saturday bookworms. Today it's my turn on the blog tour for Even If We Break by Marieke Nijkamp. You may have heard of her debut This is Where it Ends and Before I Let Go. Read on for my full review.
REVIEW
As we are officially coming into autumn I am looking forward to settling down with more thrillers and cosy reads. Even If We Break fell into the thriller category and it was a very creepy read. I'm going to share the blurb as it is a pretty awesome synopsis.
Five friends go to a cabin.
Four of them are hiding secrets.
Three years of history bind them.
Two are doomed from the start.
One person wants to end this.
No one is safe
Although Even If We Break had a bit of a slow start, it really did start to pick up a short way in and I liked that I had no idea where it was going. Marieke was excellent at creating a dark, gloomy and what's that noise atmosphere. I had to read this one during the daylight hours because of this, it was too scary in the nighttime hours.
With alternating chapters between each of the characters, drip feeding you bits of information and never knowing if anyone was behind what was going on. What was also really unusual was that they were all part of a role playing game, so we experience them in character and then when they had to face the real world. I must admit I did find this a little strange at first but I did get used to it.
A super creepy and very atmospheric read, definitely one for Halloween.
