I first discovered John Marrs when I was sent his third book The One to read a few years back and I absolutely loved it. I described it as a psychological thriller with a difference and it really was. It was such an original concept and he has done that again with What Lies Between Us.
REVIEW
Nina can never forgive Maggie for what she did. Nina needs to make Maggie pay. Every house has its own secrets to hide but Maggie and Nina's has darker secrets than most. Every other night they have dinner together and once over, Nina returns Maggie to her room on the third floor and reattaches the chain to her leg. Nina can never let Maggie leave, she owes her twenty one years of the life she stole off her. But Maggie is keeping more secrets than Nina realises and she is going to keep them from her even if that means going to her grave.
First off, absolutely wow. This literally had me racing through the books' pages to find out what secrets Maggie was hiding and what on earth had happened for Nina to keep her incarcerated. I don't think I have ever read a book so quickly.
Written in a duel narrative between Nina and Maggie, more and more secrets are slowly, slowly revealed, but enough to keep you guessing and reading on as the need to find out more is just too great to put the book down.
I don't want to reveal any more than I have as this is just a thriller that you have to read! John is a fantastic thriller writer where you have no idea where the story could possibly be going. Once again this was a thriller with a difference. I don't know how he comes up with such different stories, but once again this managed to be a thriller unlike what I have read before.
Another super addictive, twisty and brilliant read from John Marrs.
