Blog Tour: Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane
Happy September bookworms. Today brings my stop on the tour for Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane. Read on for my full review.
REVIEW
After seeing this gorgeous green-blue book all over twitter and to acclaimed reviews, my curiosity was peaked and I just had to read it. Ask, Again, Yes is a story of love, loss, family and the mistakes we make.
Brian Stanhope and Francis Gleeson are neighbours, not friends as such but they know each other from working in the force. No one could have predicted what happened, no one truly knows what goes on behind closed doors but it all leads to explosive events to come.
Ask, Again, Yes is an emotionally charged novel covering themes of mental illness, alcoholism, love, friendship and forgiveness. Each of these characters are put through huge amounts of emotional pain. I found myself pulled in so many directions as to how I felt for each character at each stage. The mistakes each of them make and the decisions that shape the course of events.
Written from multiple character points of view, this was a story that can get you invested in them right from the get go. Following them right through from the 1970's through to present day. We watch them deal with the fall out and how that affects them later on in life.
There was a bit of a lull for me in the middle of this where I was hoping for the conclusion, but there was more that needed to be said. I did find it quite hard to stay invested in the story at this point, but I persevered as you can see just how eloquently the author writes.
An emotionally charged, heartfelt story from Mary Beth Keane.
