Blog Tour: Miracle Creek by Angie Kim
Miracle Creek is a book that I had seen all over twitter and I was super keen to read. It looks like it was released in the US before being published over here and to hundreds of rave reviews. I couldn't wait to get stuck in.
REVIEW
After an initial shaky start with me trying to get my head around all the different characters and their viewpoints, Miracle Creek became a fantastic twisty thriller.
In Miracle Creek, 'Miracle Submarine' is a place of hope. This is where parents bring their children in the hope of them living a 'normal' life - a life free of autism through HBOT treatment which is Hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This is a treatment usually for medical conditions such as decompression sickness, but the Yoo's who are an immigrant family from Korea, focus is to use it to help those with autism and male infertility. There isn't sufficient evidence that this treatment cures this and should it be used to 'cured' those with autism and the Yoos face regular protests outside their facility, especially as it is known to be extremely dangerous if not monitored.
A slow burner to start, this is a courtroom drama following on from the devastating explosion that took two lives and injured so many. Elizabeth is a victim of one of the lives lost, but she is the one on trial for murder. There are many characters involved and it gets you questioning motives, judgements, emotions and what really is the truth.
I think this would be an excellent book club read as there is just so much to discuss. I need to get a friend or family member to read it now so I can talk to them about it too.
With a you won't see it coming ending, Miracle Creek was gripping to say the least!
