Making your home your haven
Your home should be a place where you look forward to coming home to each day as it's somewhere you can relax, feel safe and switch off a the end of the day. If your home doesn't currently make you feel like this, there are small ways that you can improve the space and I talk about a few of them below.
Make It Cosy
I do love a cosy home, particularly in winter. Making your home as cosy as possible means adding comfy furniture pieces, and plenty of texture. Look for furniture that you can sink into at the end of a long day and add texture everywhere you can; use rugs, cushions, throws, and even plants to create the cosy vibe your home needs to give it that relaxing feel.
Books
Books are my absolute go to to having in the house. Whenever I need to forget about my worries for a bit, I settle down with a book and lose myself in a story. Sitting in front of the TV or being on your phone might numb your mind for a little bit, but it doesn't fully give you the distraction you need. Create a reading nook if you can find a nice comfortable spot in your home. I have one at home and I love going in there and just shutting out the world for a little bit. I have a big comfy chair, my bookcase nearby and by a window- these are just some ideas though as you can create your reading nook however you want. I do recommned that you don't bring your phone in with you as this will just make you want to pick it up and check it and that defeats the purpose of a book nook.
Keep Your Home Secure
Creating a safe haven not only means feeling safe and relaxed, it means knowing you are. A lot of people actually forget this, but it's so important to make sure your home is physically safe and secure from those who will want to take the things you love for themselves. Look at home security installation if you haven’t considered it already and you might find that it’s quite a bit more affordable than you first thought. Particularly if you live in an area that has high crime rates, you can have CCTV cameras installed, which can be great deterrents. You can also have alarms, and don’t forget to make sure your doors and windows are all updated and reinforced. You’ll feel totally at ease in your home then, whether you’re relaxing with a good book or cooking a meal.
Involve All Of The Senses
This may be something you haven't even considered but making your home smell nice can be so comforting and relaxing. I currently have a bluebell scented diffuser and every time I smell it it affirms that I am definitely home and it's time to relax. Another really relaxing and healthy and non-toxic way of making your home smell great is by using essential oils. You’ll honestly love the results! It's amazing what a nice smelling home can make you feel.
