Picnic Party with Troika Books

Last week I had the absolute pleasure of going to Troika Books' Picnic Party at The Parlour Cafe in Herne Hill. I will be honest and say that I hadn't known about Troika Books for very long, but I had seen some of their very appealing books on twitter, so when the invite landed in my inbox, I jumped at the chance to go.

Troika Books, if you have't heard of them yet are an independent middle grade and more recently YA publisher who have only been around for 5 years. Founded my Martin West who previously worked at Penguin and later joined by Roy Johnson.  Last year they published A Berlin Love Song by Sarah Matthias, which was recently long listed for the Carnegie Award. It was their first real success in the YA world and they now aim to publish around five YA novels a year. These will be a mixture of new writers and authors who's books may have been published before but who's story telling and relevance still resonates today.

The Girl in the broken mirror

Their authors consist of Sarah Matthias, Savita Kalhan, Miriam Halahmy, Rosemary Hayes and Tamara Macfarlane and it was lovely to meet all of them and hear about their books. Honestly some of the loveliest authors I have had the pleasure of meeting. I am particuarly keen to read The Girl in the Broken Mirror by Savita Kalhan and Hidden by Miriam Halahmy.

A huge thank you to Troika Books and Naomi for inviting me, I had a wonderful time, the books look and sound great, the food was divine and I definitely want to make another trio back to The Parlour cafe and hopefully can bump some of those books up my to-be-read pile!
