Book Review: Undercover Princess by Connie Glynn
Every now and then, a book comes along that I just completely fall head over heels in love with and this year it has been Undercover Princess by Connie Glynn.
REVIEW
When I saw the cover for Undercover Princess, I knew I just had to get my hands on it. It was calling to me with it's pretty pink and purple cover and of course the title. It has been a long while since I have read a book with Princesses in it and very quickly I discovered this was just the type of read I had been looking for.
This tells the story of Lottie Pumpkin- what a fantastic name; huge fan of all things fairytales and of course all things princess. But the very last thing she suspects is to be roomed with an actual Princess at her new school Rosewood Hall!
Connie's imagination and writing style are what truly brings this world to life. I particularly loved the setting of Rosewood Hall and it reminded me slightly of Hogwarts, just without the magic, although there were still subtle hints of magic throughout. The characters were also a treat and really well developed, if a little older than the fourteen year olds they are supposed to be. I liked the focus on friendship that runs throughout the book and Ellie and Lottie's just shone off the pages and I love getting behind a protagonist like Lottie, who despite her anxieties can achieve more than she realises...
The storyline kept me glued throughout and I was constantly wanting to get back to my book to see what would happen next. It's quite rare these days for a book to keep calling out to me and want me to get back and read it. I would love this to be made into a tv series as there is so much that goes on and would have viewers wanting more after every episode.
The right words cannot describe just how much I loved this book! It just hit the right spot and think this is something that is actually missing in the YA fiction world as princess themes tend to me more of a young children's book genre.
A brilliant debut from Connie and I am eagerly anticipating the next book in The Rosewood Chronicles!
Undercover Princess is out November 2nd
