On the blog today, it's my stop on The Couple Next Door blog tour by Shari Lapena sharing my review. This was a fantastic page-turning thriller that catches you out every time you think you've got it sussed, read on for more of my review.
The Couple Next Door was a hotly auctioned for book and after reading I think you will definitely see why. This tells the story of a couple who leave their 6-month old baby at home while they attend a dinner party. They check on her every half an hour, until they head home and find that their baby has gone...
This was an intricate web of lies upon lies that grew to an enormous mess. I liked how the author tries to throw you at each turn. It definitely compels you to read on as you never know what development will take place next. What I really liked about this was that the premise seems quite simple, a baby goes missing and we need to find out who did it, but in reality it is a complicated plot and as a reader we don't know who we can trust.
Psychological thrillers that really make me work to try and suss out what has gone on are the best in my opinion. I love how they effortlessly throw you and I can see a lot of people really liking The Couple Next Door as it sucks you in and has you eagerly turning the pages to find out what happens. It also gets you thinking about what you would do in that situation and how you would handle it, would you have done the same?
I would have perhaps liked a bit more character development to really get inside each of the characters heads, but then this makes it harder for you to work out the plot twist, so in that sense it still worked.
Shari Lapena is a great debut author who has written a brilliantly twist and tense filled thriller. I will eagerly be awaiting from Shari has for us next.
