My Kind of Book Book Club

Last Thursday, I had booked tickets to go to My Kinda Book's first Book Club at Waterstones Brighton. This was also to celebrate publication day for Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Banard. The cover for this book is absolutely stunning and it has been on my radar for a while so I was very keen to hear more about from the lovely author and of course pick up a copy.

A lot of book events always happen in London, which is fairly easy for me to get to, but on the rare occasions that they happen in Brighton, I always jump at the chance to go. I was allowed to leave a little bit earlier from work and I met my sister Alex and her baby daughter Leia and we headed down there. We sat at the front so that Alex could make an escape if Leia got a bit fussy, but she was honestly perfect and we obviously had great seats. Leena Norms hosted and she was a great interviewer, asking loads of great questions and giving those of us who had not read the book a wonderful insight in what it was about and the issues it covers. There was some fascinating discussion about how teenagers today learn about mental health and most of it comes from the fiction books they read. This is why it is so important to cover these topics in fiction as you won't get the same understanding and insight as you do at school. I was also pleased to hear Sara reiterate that even though Beautiful Broken Things is a YA book, it is not aimed just at teenagers. I always love hearing this as even though I am not classed a young adult any more, it is one of my all time favourite genres and it still teaches me so much.

Sara then gave us a wonderful reading from Beautiful Broken Things and it just made me want to read it even more.

All too soon, the event was over and I went to buy a copy of the beautiful book and get it signed by Sara herself. We also got to take home a lovely bag of little goodies and I am 100% in love with the tote bag! Couldn't agree more. Overall a brilliant event and I am sure these will prove very popular. A great idea from My Kind of Book!

Beautiful Broken Things is out now!
