Hello Everyone and hope that you are all enjoying the Bank Holiday. Today it is my stop on the tour for the amazing Burnt Paper Sky by Gilly Macmillan and I have my review to share with you. The other stops on the tour are all listed below, so check out their blogs for some other great content posts!
Burnt Paper Sky tells of a parents worst nightmare. You turn your back on your child for a matter of minutes, only to then find that your child is gone without a trace. Rachel Jenner is living this nightmare and every second that Ben is away from her puts him in more danger. But what really happened that day? As the cracks start to show and the level of trust Rachel thought she once had diminishes, who can Rachel turn to? But then can the nation trust Rachel? Who's side will you be on?
This is a cracker of a debut. Every possible angle that you could think of happening in this case scenario is covered; from the detectives point of view, to the Mother's to every possible suspect, process and the public's reaction. This is truly believable read that will suck you in and have other people around you wanting know what's happening- but of course have you telling them to go and read the book.
What makes this story work so well is the clear amount of research that has gone into making this such a detailed and intricate story. There is also of course the feeling of never knowing who you as a reader can trust.
Burnt Paper Sky will have you hooked as you will be desperate to find out what happened to Ben; it is the type of desperation you will feel keenly with Rachel, as not knowing is some of the worst kind of grief and torture.
This is a fantastic, clever and gripping debut from Gilly Macmillan and I hope there is more from her soon.
