Book Review: The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige

Title: The Wicked Will Rise
AuthorDanielle Paige
Published: 7th May 2015
Publisher: Harper Collins

Having previously read the first in the series, Dorothy Must Die and actually really enjoying it AND being left with a great cliffhanger; I was really looking forward to reading the follow up.

So if you have not read the first book in this, please read my review of Dorothy Must Die before reading this one, which can be read here: Dorothy Must Die Review.

I seem to be reading super quick reads at the moment, which definitely isn't a bad thing. This had been sitting on my TBR pile for a while and because I couldn't decide what to read, I started to read the first page of some of my books to see which one would hook me. After reading the first page of The Wicked Will Rise, I found myself wanting to continue and within a couple of days I was finished!

Now onto the story, so I really liked the uniqueness and characterisation in Dorothy Must Die and this continues in The Wicked Will Rise. Danielle creates some really memorable characters, with some very defining personalities and as before, Amy is a very strong female lead.
This time round I was very grateful that it was much less gory. The first one turned my stomach a little bit! What I love about Danielle Paige is that she always manages to create a story where you literally have no idea where it is going to go. There are lots of twists and turns and times where you are wondering how Amy is going to get out of this one! It's quite rare that books are able to do this and is why I am enjoying his series.

Although I still enjoyed The Wicked Will Rise, it didn't have quite the same bang as Dorothy Must Die, but I still will be reading the next in the series.

  1. Do you think it didn't have the same wow factor because the story wasn't 'new' to you anymore? It still sounds like the second book was excellent though so I'll have to get my hands on a copy of these books!

    1. Yes I think that was it. The first one was new and fresh whereas this was the continuation. But yes it was still really good, still recommend :) x
