I am a huge fan of Teri Terry having read her amazing Slated series earlier last year, so when I heard she had a new book coming out, I honestly could not wait to start reading.
Mind Games tells the story of Luna. In her world, people spend most of their time in the 'virtual world' and not the 'real world'. They all have implants that help them to connect to this virtual world, but Luna is a Refuser- she chooses not to be constantly part of the virtual world.. However Luna is different, she can exist in both the virtual and the real world, but she must keep it a secret. But then she is singled out for testing and suddenly it's not so easy to hide.
As I read more and more dystopian novels, I think it becomes harder and harder to differentiate them, but Teri has done exactly that. She has created a completely fresh and unique world that draws on how today we spend so much time online, that in Luna's world, it has gone to the ultimate extreme and you can actually live in a virtual world and leave your real self at home!
As with Teri's Slated series, Teri once again manages to really draw you into the story. At the end of each chapter, you are constantly left in suspense and you just have to keep on reading. You know a book is awesome when it makes you do this.
I really like Teri's writing style. Her descriptions are brilliantly vivid and what could otherwise be a hard to convey world, isn't because Teri describes and explains Luna's world perfectly. The only slight criticism that I have is that despite enjoying the fast pace of the story, there were a some bits that I felt were a little too quick and needed slightly more explanation and description. As I said though, this only happened a couple of times and I still managed to figure out what was going on.
Teri always managed to throw in brilliant twists and she definitely does not let us down in Mind Games. There were a couple of jaw dropping plot twists that you will not see coming and they managed to make an already great book brilliant.
Another fantastic, unique and suspenseful story from Teri Terry. Cannot wait for the next book from Teri!
