Today I have Jonathan Lee on the blog talking about his upcoming book The Page

Interview with Jonathan Lee

1. Please can you give us a short synopsis of what The Page is about?
Michael Sewell is holidaying alone for the first time since a tragic car accident took his wife. Whilst sunbathing, a gust of wind strips a book from across the pool and a page sticks to his chest.  To his horror, the words on the page describe in detail the exact moments leading up to the car crash. Michael must now delve into his past and face his future taking him and his family on a horrifying and tragic journey to the truth.
Everything I write has a twist in it. The Page is no exception.  I also thought I’d play with the reader this time so there are fifteen clues which give away the twist throughout. There’s a competition coming up for those who can spot them.

2. What was the inspiration for The Page?
Unbelievably, whilst holidaying in America, a book was stripped by the wind and page stuck to me. I read the page and it was some Mills and Boone-style love story. It did get me thinking about what would have happened if it had described something personal to me. Michael’s dark secrets developed from there and that’s where the story began. I still have the original page at home.

3. Which character did you most enjoy writing?
Michael, without question. He is truly the most selfish, superior and downright awful person you could wish to meet. It was fun writing someone who I hated from the word go!

4. Where is your favourite place to write?
I used to need total silence, but I’ve developed over time and now I can write pretty much anywhere.

5. What is the best thing about being a writer?
The freedom of storytelling, I think. There is nothing quite like losing yourself in a  character or plot line. Obviously, it is always lovely when somebody takes the time and effort to read one of my books and enjoys it. I am truly grateful for this.

6. What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading Summer House with Swimming Pool by Herman Koch. I only started it yesterday, prior to that I’ve just finished The Good Nurse by Charles Graeber which was excellent.
7. Please describe The Page in three words.
Dark. Twisting. Simple.

Many thanks to Jonathan for stopping by, you can find him on twitter at: @j0n4th4n_lee
