Review
The below is a guest review from my Nan.
Although I found this book to be very readable and eye opening in as much of the actual treatment of the South Africans by the British during the Boar war. The fact that I had to keep referring to the back of the book to give me the understanding of some of the South African words, made the reading a bit frustrating. It broke the flow of the book to have to keep referring to the index.
I found I really sympathised with the main character, Aletta and her family. They really made the best of a very terrible time during their time living in tents, which served as their home for a couple of years in what was called the concentration camp. The families there endured so much. It did make good reading but I don't think I would recommend the book to other readers. I suppose really the book wasn't for me.
