Review

A Little in Love was an absolutely captivating novel that I just could not tear myself away from. Although I will admit that I have not read Les Miserables, this did not deter from the enjoyment of the story. Can I also just mention how beautiful and striking the cover is! And the red lined pages make it even more gorgeous! I shall be looking after this one!

A little in love tells Eponine's story, a character from Les Miserables. Her story is incredibly heartbreaking and sad. Born into a way of life that she doesn't want to lead, she tries her hardest to be good and kind, but this is not always easy. You can't help but sympathise with Eponine and her story. She really has not been dealt the best card in life and you can see why she finds it so hard to be kind, even though she tries her hardest.

I absolutely love the way Susan Fletcher writes. She manages to make you feel like you are right there with Eponine in 19th century France; so much so that I was so engrossed in the story, I nearly missed my stop on the train! She really gets across the suffering and unbelievable hardship that the poor had to go through and it really did tear at my heartstrings. Eponine's family were not honest people, but you still manage to feel sorry for them as their quality of life was so appalling.

I now must must must read Les Miserables! I am embarrassed now that I have not read it! It is going on the to read pile!

A beautiful, sad but engrossing and passionate novel, A Little In Love is one of my top reads this year!
