Behind the music…
Being best friends with a mega-star has its perks and Nicole Wilde, music journalist, laps them up. But when said friend, Dylan King, gorgeous lead singer of The Burnouts, has zero sense of self-preservation – once a drop of alcohol hits his blood stream ? and an inability to keep ‘little Dylan’ in his pants, it also comes with responsibilities.
Now, Nicole has to track down Dylan in time to play a charity gig tomorrow. Half a dozen groupies, a haunted hotel, a tattoo parlour, a reality show runner-up and a crazy bed-hopping, sleepless night later – will she find him before the tour bus leaves town? And when she does, is it time to head home? Or to jump on the tour bus and go along for the ride!
Between a Rockstar and a Hard Place is the fun and fabulous prequel to Portia MacIntosh’s How Not to be Starstruck. Look out for it March 2014.
Nicole Wilde is a music journalist and best friends with super famous rockstar Dylan King. Lucky her you might think, but Dylan is prone to getting himself into all sorts of trouble and only Nicole seems to have the ability to find him when he goes off on one of his drunken outings. There is more pressure to find him as well as he has to be at a charity gig the very next day and if he's not at the tour bus by 6pm, they will leave without him!
I felt really sorry for Nicole when reading this. She is up practically the whole night looking for Dylan, when it's not really her responsibility to make sure he gets to his gig on time. Every time she gets a lead on where he is, she just misses him and is sent on another wild goose chase trying to find him again.
There were some funny scenes in this and it doesn't all turn out bad for Nicole, even though it seems like Dylan is having all the fun! I did warm to Nicole and she was an incredibly loyal friend to Dylan! I hope he realises that.
Overall this was a nice, quick read that sets you up nicely for the full length novel Starstruck.
3/5
