Millie’s always dreamt of being American, thanks to an obsession with US Television shows. As the only English girl on campus, she realises that she could live her very own American dream: joining a sorority and bagging an all American boyfriend. Only when Millie finds a friend in Kristen, she alienates Casey and Jen, the sorority girls who’d taken her under their wing. Millie discovers that Casey is not a woman to be crossed, and she soon finds herself living an American nightmare with her scholarship under threat, and the all American boyfriend ending things before they really start.
The prequel to Milile and the American Wedding, find out where it all began, and join Millie, Kristen and Rob at an American University.
Millie is over in America in your very stereotypical American University on an international exchange course for one year. She initially finds it a bit lonely as she has come in part way through, so she's not a freshman, which makes it harder for her to make friends. Every time she opens her mouth to say something she is met with 'Oh I love you're accent!' and although this is OK at first, it is now starting to grate.
Then she meets Casey and Jen who take her under her wing. They seem nice at first, but then Millie starts to realise that they are actually quite bitchy. When she is out shopping with them, Millie orders a Coke, to which Casey says she thinks Millie should order a Diet Coke if she is ever going to get down to a size 4 (UK size 8). True friends wouldn't say that! Millie is also finding that they are using her like a pet to get guys because they all love her accent. They also say that she should try and 'rush' (join) their sorority.
Millie is OK with all this until one time she asks Casey if she can bring a friend to a party. Casey says no because it is a 'closed party'. But then Millie finds out that Casey lied to her, which she is not happy about it. Millie decides to lie next time that she can't go with Casey and Jen to a party and she goes off with her friend. This is where she meets Kristen, who is waaay nicer than Jen and Casey. The only problem is Jen and Casey are at the same party and they are livid that Millie turned them down and this is where the trouble for Millie begins!!!
Once again I loved this story from Annabel. She gets across the American culture extremely well in her writing and again there were so many things I didn't know about American universities! Learning about the sororities really interested me, as you see it in films but you don't actually think its like that (yes I trust book sources more :D).
It was great reading about how Millie and Kristen's friendship came about and I definitely would have liked to have been friends with the pair of them. They party sooo much! I don't know how they do it?! Also American parties sound so much fun! There was one party called hotels, where every room has a different drinking game in it.
There were some seriously hot guys in this! It has made me want to go to America so I can meet one!
To those of you that have read Millie and the American Wedding, I strongly recommend the prequel. You get to find out more about Millie's time in America and how she met the friends she did. I was pleased that there wasn't much emphasis on her relationship with a certain someone as we know how it turns out in Millie and the American Wedding, so don't worry about that. To those that have not read either you will just have to read it to find out what I'm talking about ;).
Another great read from Annabel, full of drama and lots of partying! You will definitely enjoy.
Millie and the American University is out tomorrow!
9/10
